Dr. Sketchy’s Buenos Aires – First Round

November 13th, 2009 — 11:09am

Last tuesday I attended the first session of the Buenos Aires branch of the Dr Sketchy’s Anti Art School. Had a great time with my buddy Pablo Vigo (Factum!). Halfway trough the session I found that Leonardo Manco was there, and we shared a drink and some stories on the break.

Great place, great atmosphere, great models. I’m really looking forward to attend the next one.

Here’s three of the sketches I did on the evening:

Alberto Breccia’s “Negro”

November 10th, 2009 — 7:28am

IMG_0797

Back in the year 2000, I managed to buy a used, ruined copy of Alberto Breccia’s “Negro”. It’s a book published by Ediciones Record, way back in 1978, collecting many of his short stories. Inckuding what I consider to be the most perfect comic ever made, his adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe’s “Tell-Tale Heart”. The copy I got in that flea shop didn’t have any covers, and many of the interior pages were loose. (nothing was missing, thankfully)

My colleague Berliac and me, we always talked about taking that copy I got and do a proper cover. We did it last weekend. The binding and the title were made by him. The artwork  is mine.

I realize now that I’m posting this on the anniversary of his passing, november 10, 1993. Which, in Argentina, is the cartoonist’s day. Strange coincidences…

And, as I always say on this date: We miss you, Old Man.

Steve Ditko

November 2nd, 2009 — 10:30pm

Today one of the persons that made me choose to tell stories in panels is celebrating his 82th birthday.

I’d like to shake his hand one day, and thank him for all the good things he taught me.

In the meantime, here are some images:

A Comic RE: Metal Gear (Solid)

October 19th, 2009 — 7:13pm

Here are the two pages that I did about a game that taught more than a thing or two, and that even ten years later continues to be among my favourites.

(However, I still maintain that the true masterpiece is the third part)

Snake? Snake! Snaaaaaaake!

October 12th, 2009 — 7:03pm

Snake, Solid Snake

A panel of a comic based on Metal Gear Solid,  one of my favourite videogames.

(Tangent!  My favourite is part 3, Snake Eater. One day I’ll write about it, it’s one of my top 10 games)

It was sent as a submission for a videogame-themed anthology, but it wasn’t accepted. I’ll se if I can post it in the next days, I like how it came out.
